The Ufa Youth Model of World Health Organization is an exciting simulation of the World Health Organization (next “WHO”) with its specialized agencies, the World Health General Assembly, Executive Board of WHO, Regional office WHO for Europe and the Secretariat of WHO.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is concerned with international public health. The organization develops and promotes the use of evidence-based tools, norms and standards to support Member States to inform health policy options. It oversees the implementation of the International Health Regulations, and publishes a series of medical classifications . The WHO regularly publishes a World Health Report including an expert assessment of a specific global health topic.
The World Health Assembly is the supreme decision-making body for WHO. It generally meets in Geneva in May each year, and is attended by delegations from all 194 Member States. Its main function is to determine the policies of the Organization. The Health Assembly appoints the Director-General, supervises the financial policies of the Organization, and reviews and approves the Proposed programme budget. It similarly considers reports of the Executive Board, which it instructs in regard to matters upon which further action, study, investigation or report may be required.
The Executive Board is composed of 34 members technically qualified in the field of health. Members are elected for three-year terms. The main Board meeting, at which the agenda for the forthcoming Health Assembly is agreed upon and resolutions for forwarding to the Health Assembly are adopted, is held in January, with a second shorter meeting in May, immediately after the Health Assembly, for more administrative matters. The main functions of the Board are to give effect to the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, to advise it and generally to facilitate its work.
The WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) is one of WHO’s six regional offices around the world. It serves the WHO European Region, which comprises 53 countries, covering a vast geographical region from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans. WHO/Europe collaborates with a range of public health stakeholders in the Region and globally, to ensure that coordinated action is taken to develop and implement efficient health policies and to strengthen health systems.
The Secretariat of WHO is staffed by health and other experts and support staff on fixed-term appointments, working at headquarters, in the six regional offices, and in countries.
The Organization is headed by the Director-General, who is appointed by the Health Assembly on the nomination of the Executive Board.
We will host delegates join us for four days of speakers and debates. Students of any Institutes of higher education and pupils of schools (not younger than tenth grade).Delegates will play the roles of national representatives of countries-members of the WHO (193 countries).
The languages of Model are Russian and English ( this depends on the theme and Committee chosen by the participant).
The goal of the Model is to promote student engagement in discussing global problems of mankind.
For Ufa Youth Model WHO there are three different themes of agenda.
During the session of the first Committee The World Health Assembly we are going to discuss the theme «Global strategy on reduction of drugs taking». Nowadays this theme is really actual not only for Russia but also for the whole world. The language of the section is Russian. This language is chosen in order to understand this theme better and to help participants to express their point of view.
On the agenda of the WHO Regional Office for Europe is «Economics of Healthcare system. Financial problems», the language is Russian.
And during the session of the Executive Board we are going to discuss the theme «Road traffic injury». The working language of this committee is English
The Model can give participants an opportunity to:
- develop and exercise leadership skills of diplomacy and negotiation, as well as the quality of arriving at a compromise and working towards innovative solutions;
- get new emotions and make new friends;
- take part in discussing global problems of mankind;
- get the lectures and take part in master-classes of best coaches of the Republic Bashkortostan.
